Restore or Replace?

Do you have a really comfy chair that cost you a fortune when you first purchased it, fits perfectly in its space and just needs some TLC?

If your item was super expensive at the time sometimes having something re-upholstered can be a very cost effective way of giving the item a new look and feel.

Until we make a concerted effort to stop buying and creating huge demand for cheap, mass produced, imported furniture not a lot is going to change and if the item was cheap to buy in the first place it may cost the same or more than buying new depending on your fabric choice but here are just a few reasons why restoring your loved item of furniture could be a better investment than buying a new piece.

Sentimental Reasons

You may have inherited a piece antique furniture that you really dont want to get rid of because it holds lots of sentimental value. These are my favourite projects, it’s such a wonderful thing to know the furniture item can be given a new lease of life and can continue to be handed down through the generations.

Quality

More often than note the expression They dont make stuff like they used to anymore” is very true, especially when it comes to furniture.

If you have a very solid wooden framed chair, that used to be super comfy but just needs some plumping and a new look then it can definitely be worth going down the restoration route.

Consider the Environment

It’s not rocket science that if you restore your item it stops it going to landfill and is therefore great for our environment,  and it also saves you a trip to the local tip!

Up-cycling, re-purposing or re-upholstering the item will not only make you feel really good but will help our planet too.  It is 100% more environmentally friendly as you are helping reduce your carbon footprint and reducing the consumption of Earths critical natural resources, by not conforming to purchasing a new item built in a factory somewhere.
